RSS (Really Simple Synsication) is a useful tool for disseminating information.

There are serveral formats but in the main follow a xml format.

There are many RSS creation tools and can be set up quite simply using a text editior however, aggregation of RSS has been foremost on my mind of late, where lots of other folks feeds get HOSTED from one location. To do this requires some scripting and, of course a fair degree of management.

I'm currently looking at using wget or curl to regularly capture a feed URI and paste it into my own URI structure. This will allow a corporate body to set up a news reader to point to an internal web server(s) to get RSS updates.

In this scenario administrators have to set up the script in the first place, and then maintain it when users request RSS feeds and when the RSS URI changes. Fortunately most feed providers try to keep their URI consistent.
